DMPED <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/o\/5wZQ5\/https:\/\/dmped.dc.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/dc\/sites\/dmped\/page_content\/attachments\/Master%20Slide%20Deck%20March%20Madness%202023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;during March Madness it would release an RFP this May, but it has still hasn&#8217;t issued the request. DMPED noted the city\u2019s 2021 Comprehensive Plan envisions the land for high-density mixed-use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The property is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/o\/5wZQ5\/https:\/\/app.dcoz.dc.gov\/Home\/ViewCase?case_id=23-02\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">going through the<\/a> Zoning Commission to change the zoning from MU-4 to MU-10, which would convert the usage from low-to-moderate density to medium-to-high density mixed-use development.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The plans have sparked backlash&nbsp;from neighbors&nbsp;who argue the city didn&#8217;t seek their input and that the new development would drive up the cost of living in the neighborhood,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/o\/5wZQ5\/https:\/\/www.wusa9.com\/article\/news\/local\/dc-residents-oppose-plan-to-convert-police-station-and-fire-house-into-mixed-use-development\/65-27452f91-f00a-408d-9e10-aeb39ede3f93\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WUSA9 reported<\/a>. Hundreds of letters in support of or opposition to the development have been filed with the commission.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A DMPED spokesperson said the agency&nbsp;continues to support the rezoning and pointed to &#8220;extensive&#8221; meetings with the community and the support from two&nbsp;local Advisory Neighborhood Commission groups.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BISNOW, July 11, 2023, Emily Wishingrad, Washington, D.C.
