I am excited to officially launch\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The Center for Social Housing and Public Investment\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(CSHPI). The primary purpose of CSHPI is to promote social housing as an alternative economic development model to offer a real solution the affordable housing crisis that is currently gripping the United States. In the near term,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The Center for Social Housing and Public Investment\u00a0<\/span><\/span>will have a heavy focus on local housing policy in Washington, DC and will prioritize developing and disseminating resources to educate District residents around the concept and the need for social housing to be implemented locally. Looking forward, CSHPI will expand its resources to include research and analysis on municipalities across the country and will advocate for social housing on a national level.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To get things started, CSHPI has prepared a report focused on local housing policy in the District of Columbia. The report is broken into four parts, and covers:<\/span><\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1) what Wall Street\u2019s role in the affordable housing crisis has been and continues to be;<\/span><\/div>\n
2) how the District of Columbia\u2019s local economic development policy decisions drive up housing cost and exacerbate the crisis;<\/span><\/div>\n
3) what social housing is, how it works, and why it offers a real solution to the affordable housing crisis in DC; and<\/span><\/div>\n
4) how social housing could be implemented in Washington, DC.<\/span><\/div>\n
