1617 U Street: Community Update & Possible Outcomes!

Saturday, July 12 @ 12pm
3D Community Room, 1620 V Street Entrance

This Saturday, Save DC Public Land: Working for a Safe, Racially Equitable, and Truly Affordable U Street invites you to an open public forum at the 3D community room to hear updates and further discuss the future of our 2-acres of public land (and current home of the police and fire stations that serve the U Street corridor).

Please RSVP: socialhousing@savedcpublicland.org

With special guest:

East Peterson-Trujillo, Campaign Director of the Green New Deal for DC to present on the key supply, revenue generating, and truly affordable housing principles, advantages, and examples of municipally owned social housing on public land throughout the nation including right up the block in Montgomery County.

During this brutal budget season with the Mayor’s austerity budget being threatened upon the city, it’s becoming clearer and clearer the valuable role our public land and air rights can play to insulate us from Federal spending cuts while simultaneously generating housing supply, providing consistent and voluminous income streams for the city, and delivering true affordability for all incomes and family sizes, and to do all that without giving away the city’s limited key assets.

Gathering Topics:

  • Updates on 1617 UANC Calendar; Potential Disposition Timeline
  • Debrief of the Tour of the Laureate in Montgomery County: Takeaways for a project at 1617 U
  • Special Guest presentation on municipally-owned social housing
  • Defending 1617 U Air RightsRetaining the land and air rights for public benefit
  • Finding Racial EquityRepairing the lack of outreach to Black Neighbors of 1617 U using the OurRFP process
